Dichroic Glass Jewelry
Dichroic Glass was originally developed for Nasa, for use in satellites, mirrors, and spacesuit visors. Dichroic Glass is a glass containing multiple micro-layers of metal oxides (gold, silver, titanium, chromium, aluminum, zirconium, magnesium and silicon) evaporated onto the surface of the glass in a vacuum chamber. This is what gives the glass dichroic optical proportions.
The most distinctive feature of dichroic glass is that it seems to have more than one color, especially when viewed from multiple angles.
Each piece of Dichroic Glass jewelry is designed in my home studio, in Longwood, Florida. Each piece is carefully hand-cut, assembled, fired, and properly kiln annealed for long life, and strength of the glass. Many pieces will go through multiple firings to achieve the desired affect.
